Hi guys. How are you?

Your task this week is to write an e-mail. I am sure you are used to doing it, aren’t you?

This activity is related to the text “New Cancer Treatments More Potent with Fewer Side Effects”, from unit 3. Taking this text into consideration, let’s suppose you are interested in finding more information about the treatments presented in the text and you want to study / research this topic. Or you just want to know a little bit more about the theme.

 Your task is to write Bioengineer Rafael Davalos an e-mail demonstrating your interest and asking for further information on this topic and send it to me. (Since this is the first draft, you will not send it to Rafael Davalos yet, ok? J )

Hi guys. How are you?

You have two activities this week.

The first one is to try to correct the sentences below. I have selected some mistakes that you made in your last activity. The reason I chose these mistakes is not to make a big deal of it, but since most of you were making the same mistakes, I thought it would be a good idea to think about them.

You have 7 sentences, try to find the mistake and correct it. The number next to the sentence indicates the number of mistakes in that phrase. If you can, try to explain why it was incorrect before. I also would like to ask you to write a sentence that you were in doubt when you were doing your homework. Or a sentence that I highlighted and you didn’t know how to correct. Is that ok?

Activity 1

Activity 2

Since we have been talking about discoveries, it would be a good idea for you to show an interesting discovery in your field of study. Try to find a video about an important discovery in your area. Post the link to the video on our blog and record a comment briefly explaining why this discovery is important. If you prefer, you can post the link of a movie that presents some kind of discovery and you can comment about that. You can also talk about a sitcom. You may choose what you think is more appropriate or more interesting for you, ok?

Hi guys. How are you doing?

You are going to watch a video about some of the greatest discoveries in physics. It is part of a series of seven videos that portray the most important scientific discoveries. I will ask you to watch to the first for this activity. If you find them interesting, you can watch the other ones.

Your task is to compare the discoveries presented in this first video to the ones from the exercise you did in class (top 10 discoveries, page 1 – exercise C).

After writing some comments about the top ten discoveries and the ones presented in the video, choose the most important discovery. Write one or paragraphs arguing why you chose that discovery and why you think it is the most important one.
